Nestled between Martina Franca, Locorotondo, and Cisternino, Tenuta Santoro is a winery with a deep-rooted history. The ancestors of Marco Emilio Santoro (now the fifth generation) carefully chose this land to plant their first vineyards.
The secret behind their exceptional wines? Terra Rossa – the characteristic red soil of this region. Poor in nitrogen but rich in clay, silt, sand, and potassium, this unique terrain enhances the flavor profile of their wines, now proudly labeled Sarolo.
A Winemaking Tradition Since 1179
Wine production in this area dates back centuries, even before the Santoro family settled here. A parchment from 1179 confirms that wines from this region were exported via the Brindisi port to Lebanon and Syria. Today, Marco Emilio Santoro is committed to reviving historic grape varieties that nearly disappeared in the late 19th century.
