Locorotondo – The Round Village
20-minute drive from Villa Gufo
Locorotondo owes its name to its circular street layout, derived from locus rotundus in Latin. The narrow, rectangular houses are known as cummerse. Unlike the famous trulli, these houses give the town its own unique character.
Locorotondo is also often called “the balcony of the Valle d’Itria.” Why this name? Because the town offers breathtaking views, especially from the Giardini Pubblici (the public gardens). From here, you can see a patchwork of trulli scattered across the green countryside, with dry-stone walls, silver-hued olive trees, ancient masseria farmhouses, and vineyards stretching as far as the eye can see.

What to see in Locorotondo?
Although Locorotondo is not large, you will find a few beautiful churches, such as San Giorgio (see below), San Rocco, and the Romanesque Madonna della Greca. Be sure to take a look inside these churches and light a candle at one of the many Madonnas you will find inside.
