In Puglia the sun usually takes center stage, but every now and then a few raindrops sneak in. If it happens to rain during your stay, no stress! We’ve lined up some fun activities to keep the good vibes going. Because in Puglia, the magic never disappears—even on a cloudy day.
Wine tastings
Puglia is a true paradise for wine lovers. The region is famous for its rich reds like Primitivo and Negroamaro, but also for its fresh whites and surprising rosés. Thanks to the fertile soil and endless sunshine, the grapes here develop an intense flavor that instantly transports you to the heart of Southern Italy.
And what better time to discover these wines than on a rainy day? While the drops fall outside, you can cozy up indoors with a tasting. Explore local wineries, learn about centuries-old traditions, and savor the unique flavors that make Puglia so special. Rain or shine, a glass of Puglian wine always tastes like vacation.

Alongside wine, olive oil is perhaps the most important treasure in Puglia. It’s no coincidence they call it liquid gold! Here you can not only buy bottles, but also join tastings to explore the rich flavors – from silky smooth to pleasantly peppery. Even a rainy day turns into a delicious experience.

Spa & Wellness
Rain in Puglia? Time to put yourself first. Forget umbrellas and wet socks: this is the perfect moment for saunas, massages, and bubbles (the warm kind, though prosecco is always an option too). Bad weather outside means ultimate pampering inside. Across the region you’ll find wellness centers and spas, often tucked away in historic masserias or boutique hotels, where you can indulge in a relaxing massage or other treatments.

From shaping orecchiette to baking traditional focaccia, you’ll learn it all from locals who cook with passion and tradition. This way, a grey day turns into a delicious adventure you’ll savor long after you’re back home.

Visit a Masseria
A masseria offers a true glimpse into the soul of Puglia. Once fortified farmhouses built between the 16th and 18th centuries, they were surrounded by endless olive groves and vineyards. For generations, farmers and landowners worked side by side here, producing wine, olive oil, and local delicacies.
Today, many masserias have been transformed into charming hideaways where history, nature, and hospitality blend seamlessly. Wander through centuries-old walls, taste dishes prepared with ingredients straight from the land, and soak up the serenity of the countryside. It’s the most authentic way to experience Puglia at its purest.
- Enjoy lunch or dinner at one of the many masserias in our region.
- Their restaurants are known for quality and a genuine Puglian cuisine, often featuring products from their own estates. Some even produce their own wine or cheese.
- Many also offer cooking classes, tastings, and other unique experiences.

Visit a Mozarella farm
Mozzarella and burrata from Puglia aren’t just cheeses — they’re little clouds of pure joy. Made fresh every morning, often still warm when you taste them. Mozzarella fior di latte – usually from cow’s milk – is soft, fresh, and delicately milky in flavor, perfect with tomatoes or simply on its own with a drizzle of olive oil.
But the real star of Puglia is burrata: it looks like a simple mozzarella ball, but once you cut it open, it reveals its secret — a creamy filling of stracciatella (shreds of mozzarella mixed with cream). The result is a taste sensation: silky, rich, yet surprisingly light.
What makes it truly special is tasting it here, where it’s made: no long transport, just straight from the farm to your plate. Every bite tells a story of tradition and craftsmanship. That’s why anyone visiting Puglia simply has to try fresh mozzarella and burrata at least once.
